From a traditional subsistence homeland to a modern community, Nuiqsut continues to grow through the strength, resilience, and unity of its people.

WHERE IT BEGAN

Iñupiaq Roots

Long before modern development, this area was home to the Iñupiat people, who traveled, hunted, and gathered along the Colville River and the surrounding lands for thousands of years.

Their deep knowledge of the land, sea, and seasons continues to be an important part of Nuiqsut’s identity today.

"Our connection to the land, to the river, and to each other has always been the foundation of who we are."
