OUR COMMUNITY

A Unique Place on Alaska’s North Slope

Nuiqsut is a close-knit community located on the shores of the Colville River, about 60 miles south of the Arctic Ocean. Our community is home to the Iñupiat people, whose deep connection to the land, water, and wildlife continues to shape our way of life today.

Community Relocation

In 1970, Nuiqsut was relocated to its current site on the Colville River.

1975

50 Years

Nuiqsut was officially incorporated in 1975, marking a new chapter for our community.

City Office Holiday Closure: City Hall will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day. Regular business hours will resume on Monday, July 6. Emergency services will remain available throughout the holiday.
